Ch-Ch-Ch-Ch-Changes
Posted on 4th September 2008
Uh oh. Red tape surrounding the "in Anticipation Of..." conference has resulted in last minute changes to the brochure printing's budget; now meaning the brochure has to be produced on a black and white photocopier. Not my printing method of choice perhaps, but with some swift changes I'm pleasantly pleased with the pending result (i say pending, as they are still in the mid stages of completion...21 hours and counting).

Moving homes: work has been put on hold, as it's time to pack my life's possessions into an assortment of supermarket carrier bags and trundle them off to the other side of Camberwell.

Form, Colour & Type
Posted on 16th August 2008
Time has come to get cracking with the brochure for the "In Anticipation Of..." conference....which is rapidly approaching!
The brochure is going to contain the abstracts of the 12 speakers, in addition to the introduction, acknowledgements and running order.
I've decided upon a handy A6 pocket size format with a separate insert for the running order (due to the exact timings not being able to be finalised until the very last minute; so, all going well, the brochures shall be printed well in advance and the inserts can be printed much closer to the time).
Below are the sample layouts for the introduction and abstracts.

I do like to be beside the seaside!
Oh, I do like to be beside the sea!
I do like to stroll along the prom, prom, prom,
While the brass band plays tiddleyompompom!

"In Anticipation Of..."
Posted on 2nd July 2008
I've been invited to design the identity and publicity for "In Anticipation Of..." - a conference examining topics in the field of visual culture that address the expectations and experiences at play in the interaction between the general public, the community, the fan, the connoisseur and the texts themselves; with keynote speaker Janet Staiger; who has written some very interesting articles and books surrounding the ideas of reception studies in film.

Kaleidoscopes

Another response and angle on the Illy Coffee brief; illustrating their magazine, around the theme of 'Innovage' - a culmination of innovation and vintage.
I used images of electronic circuit boards and applied a kaleidoscope methodology to them; creating patterns which hint to nostalgic times of playing with kaleidoscopes as children.

Visual Loops

Working in response to a brief set by Illy Coffee to illustrate their magazine, Illy Words, (check it out here), on the theme of 'Innovage' - a culmination of innovation and vintage.
I was experimenting using mirrors as a tool to allow the viewer to simultaneously look forward whilst looking behind; a constant loop of looking to the future whilst acknowledging the past.
